Anatomy, which is the most basic and the oldest in the basic medicine, is the study investigating the morphology and structure of the human body. The scope of anatomy is very broad and includes gross anatomy, microscopic anatomy, embryology, anthropology, comparative anatomy, and so on.
The aim of our Department is to clarify the mechanisms of physiological and pathological phenomena concerning the oral tissue. For this purpose, we investigate the normal and disease model animals morphologically, using the light and electron microscope. In addition, we employ micro-CT, computer graphics, western blot, and RT-PCR as necessary.
The progressing research projects in our Department are as follow.
- Histopathological mechanisms of salivary gland atrophy
- Salivary gland regeneration
- Effects of soft food on oral tissues
- Distribution and function of sensory neurons
- Study on motor and sensory neurons in animal model with muscular degenerative diseases
- Macroscopic anatomical research on oral and craniofacial regions
