Over 55 years have passed since Hokkaido University School of Dental Medicine was established in 1967. The ideology of the University is “to promote physical and mental health through oral healthcare and improve the quality of life each person, and contribute to the health and welfare of mankind by engaging in dentistry as a discipline.” In response to the needs of the times, this University has sought to enhance and develop education, research, and clinical practice, and has produced many outstanding dentists, researchers, and educators. The Graduate School of Dental Medicine and School of Dental Medicine will continue to train and nuture dentists with a wide outlook, lofty intentions, and motivation to proactively solve various issues, under the spirit and policy of Hokkaido University, which are “Frontier Spirit,” “Global Perspectives,” “All-Round Education,” and “Practical Learning.”
School of Dental Medicine
The Faculty of Dental Medicine, Hokkaido University, offers a broad and diverse class curriculum in dental and related medicine, which is essential for healthcare professionals. Students are trained to become dentists who have mastered not only dental treatment techniques, but also possess sufficient basic medical knowledge and international awareness, and can contribute to the future development of dental medicine and dentistry.

Graduate School of Dental Medicine / Faculty of Dental Medicine
The Graduate School of Dental Medicine was established in Hokkaido University in April 1974 and offered a basic dentistry major and a clinical dentistry major. Later, in 2000, the Graduate School of Dental Medicine was restructured to a chair-based system to prioritize graduate school. In 2017, Graduate School of Dentistry was re-organized to the Graduate School of Dental Medicine, Faculty of Dental Medicine. During that time, many excellent researchers and dentists have been produced.
