The maxillofacial region is an important area directly related to QOL, including mastication, swallowing and phonation. Our department is the first department in Japan to advocate oral medicine at a national university, and conducts basic and clinical research on oral medicine and oral surgical diseases with an emphasis on diagnostics. Keeping clinical questions and demands in mind, the department is also committed to the training of specialists in oral surgery, while carrying out research on a wide range of topics in oral medicine, oral surgery and dental implantology. Depending on the theme, research is carried out in cooperation with various institutions.
