Working towards the development of Dental Medicine and Dentistry
– A bridge to the future
While located close to Sapporo Station, Hokkaido University is a wonderful environment where students and foreign exchange students come and go, surrounded by rich nature. The Graduate School of Dental Medicine/Faculty of Dental Medicine and School of Dental Medicine of Hokkaido University, facing a beautiful row of gingko trees, have widely contributed to international cooperations and local society, focusing on dental education, research, and clinical care.
The School of Dental Medicine has been engaged in dental medicine, research and education, taking into account changes in society and the future. In addition to teaching the most advanced dental medicine and medical information utilizing online classes (remote classes), IT, and generative AI, professionalism, medical/dental coordination, team medicine, SDGs, such as diversity and inclusion, community coexistence/bio-community are incorporated in order to sufficiently develop the qualities and abilities required for dentists. Furthermore, clinical training after graduation from dental school and recurrent education are thoroughly carried out.
The Graduate School of Dental Medicine, Faculty of Dental Medicine has promoted research development of new dental medical equipment and dental materials, by combining various seeds of dental medicine and medical science cultivated by this university with the technological and developmental capabilities of the dental industry. Under the “Dental Innovation Initiative,” industry-academia cooperations are developed, joint research with companies is strengthed to clinical development, and dental innovation space with the purpose of training young researchers through company and university collaborations is put into practical use. Furthermore, we are committed to training practical dentists, through the development of new dental medical equipment and implementation of surgical training to improve treatment techniques in difficult cases.
In addition, this university seeks international cooperation in order to provide high quality dentistry and dental medicine. Training is carried out to produce human resources who can play active roles on a global scale through a system which allows, not only Japanese, but also young researchers from overseas, to continue activities at this university even after completing graduate school, and without interrupting their career while studying overseas.
The most important mission of this university is to train human resources who have compassion and abundant creativity as a medical professional. Regardless of the progress in life science and medical techniques, or changes in society and the medical system, we will continue to value the “people” who are at the core of medical care. The Graduate School of Dental Medicine, Faculty of Dental Medicine, and the School of Dental Medicine of Hokkaido University will continue to work to train medical professionals who can be entrusted in the development of dental medicine / dentistry, and future.
